19th Annual Paddle for the Border 2024!
In early spring hundreds of paddlers launch their vessels into the Dismal Swamp Canal’s dark, mirrored waters. This historic waterway serves as the backdrop for Paddle for the Border, an annual 7.5-mile paddling excursion to the North Carolina/Virginia border.

Join the Dismal Swamp State Park for Dismal Day! Festivities run from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and include food trucks, music, nature & cultural exhibits, bounce house, wagon rides, scavenger hunt, kids crafts, live animals from OBX Lizard Land, Aurora Fossil Museum, Moonshine and Motorsports displays, and much more!
A FREE 5K Fun Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. No registration is required, but a waiver must be signed before the race.
This family friendly event welcomes strollers and allows participants to walk/run at their own pace. Do not miss this annual family festival celebrating history and nature!
North Carolina Wildlife Federation and Wildlife Habitat Stewards of Northeastern NC Chapter will be hosting a Fall Native Plant Sale, Sunday, October 13th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.
Shop our collection of southeastern native perennials, grown locally in Edenton by Wetland Plants, Inc, an exclusively native plant nursery. The collection will include:
Blue Mistflower, Swamp milkweed, Spotted Joe Pye Weed, Oxeye sunflower, and Seaside goldenrod.
Planting native species is beneficial because they offer essential food and habitats for wildlife, ensuring their survival. They demand minimal upkeep, conserve water, naturally control pests, and promote environmental sustainability.
