General Definition of Work

Performs semiskilled work maintaining buildings and facilities and performing grounds maintenance work, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the close supervision of the Property Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential Functions

Maintains the interior and exterior of County buildings.

Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings; finishes wood and plaster surfaces.

Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installation, maintenance, and repair work.

Performs custodial duties in the cleaning of County offices and facilities.

Mows grass, plants and maintains shrubs, bushes, and other plants.

Edges, rakes leaves, picks up trash along roadways; collects and transports debris.

Prepares, repairs, and replaces street and road signs.

Maintains basic records; assists with the preparation and submission of budget requests, requisitions, and reports; maintains various files and records.

Operates tractor to load & unload pallets and equipment.

Electronics trailer unloading and palletizing.

And other tasks as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General knowledge of maintenance, repair, and manual tasks of building maintenance; general knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work; general knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment required in the work; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods; ability to follow instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in building maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 20 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 80 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

 

Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to acquire a pesticide application license within six months of employment.

Possession of or ability to acquire a valid commercial driver's license.

 

 

**This position may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens & may be required to wear specialized protective equipment.
