JOB SUMMARY:
The EMS Deputy Chief performs administrative and operational work planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the emergency medical services for Camden County. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the EMS Chief and is evaluated through conferences, results of work, reports, public feedback, and regular meetings of the Emergency Medical Services Committee. Manages the department in the absence of the EMS Chief.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field and five (5) years of related experience, including supervisory experience in emergency medical services, disaster and emergency preparedness, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Must have the ability to work long hours and shift work as needed.
In the case of an Emergency/Disaster, must respond immediately; the exact response time is to be determined by the EMS Chief.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work at this level is generally performed in the office; however, this position must be physically able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. Requires mental acuity, including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of writing and the spoken word, and the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting functions, operate a computer terminal, operate a motor vehicle, occasionally under emergency conditions, at high speeds for prolonged periods of time; do extensive reading and use measurement devices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. The employee is subject to hazards in the emergency medical services work, including working in both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, hazardous fumes, dust, odors, mists, and gases, and working in close quarters. Work may expose the employee to human blood or body fluids, and thus the job is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood-borne pathogens.

Strips, waxes, and buffs tile floors; mops floors.

Fills tissue, towel, and soap dispensers; clean sink and restroom area.
Dust furniture, walls, window sills, and other woodwork.
Washes windows and dishes; cleans kitchen area.
And Other tasks as assigned.

General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to perform manual work; ability to read; thoroughness, cleanliness; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Performs semiskilled work maintaining buildings and facilities, performing grounds maintenance work, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Property Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential Functions
Maintains the interior and exterior of County buildings.
Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings; finishes wood and plaster surfaces.
Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installation, maintenance, and repair work.
Performs custodial duties in the cleaning of County offices and facilities.
Mows grass, plants and maintains shrubs, bushes, and other plants.
Edges, rakes leaves, picks up trash along roadways; collects and transports debris.
Prepares, repairs, and replaces street and road signs.
Maintains basic records; assists with the preparation and submission of budget requests, requisitions, and reports; maintains various files and records.
Operates tractor to load & unload pallets and equipment.
Electronics trailer unloading and palletizing.
And other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of maintenance, repair, and manual tasks of building maintenance; general knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work; general knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment required in the work; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods; ability to follow instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in building maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 20 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 80 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Possession of or ability to acquire pesticide application license within six months of employment.
Possession of or ability to acquire a valid commercial driver's license.
