Community Meeting-Hazard Mitigation Assistance

A Community Meeting will be held in Camden County for flood affected homeowners that may be interested in mitigation measures that will permanently reduce or eliminate future damages and losses to their homes from natural hazards.   NC Emergency Management will present information on the Unified Hazard Mitigation Assistance Programs which provides grant funds to “buyout”, elevate, or demolish and rebuild homes for eligible homeowners. 

Camden County Meeting will be February 16th at 6:30 pm at the South Mills Volunteer Fire Dept., 127 Keeter Barn Rd., South Mills, NC.

Camden County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the upstairs courtroom of the Historic Camden County Courthouse to consider Ordinance 2017-03-01 for placement of a 60 day Moratorium on Solar Farms in Camden County.

The public is invited to attend this meeting and make comments to the Board.

A copy of the Ordinance may be reviewed in the Camden County Planning Office. Substantial changes may be made to the proposed ordinance following the public hearing.

Notice of Gathering: BOC to Tour Canal w/ Rep. Torbett

In consideration of the October 2016 storm-event closure of the Dismal Swamp Canal, a brief tour of the affected area has been scheduled with NC House of Representative John Torbett. Representative Torbett serves as a ranking member Chair on the House Transportation Committee.  On Friday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. the Camden County Board of Commissioners along with County Manager Michael Brillhart and Dismal Swamp Welcome Center Director Donna Stewart will be hosting Representative John Torbett and touring the affected areas.

Syfy Cosplay Melee Reality Show Contestant, Jackie Craft will be present for the cosplay costume contest starting at 2:30 p.m. Comic Book signing with brothers, Jonathan and Timothy O' Briant, creators of Maps. Free comic books will be handed out, as well as popcorn and lemonade!

This is part of the Summer Learning Reading Program. Participants must be ages 10 - 13.

You and your colleagues realized that the eccentric Dr. Johnson has plans to unleash a deadly airborne virus that would turn anyone who came into contact with it into a zombie. You have 45 minutes to find the clues, solve the puzzles, open the locks, find the key to the room and save the world.

On September 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. the Camden County Board of Commissioners and the Camden County Planning Board will participate in a joint work session for the purpose of reviewing the recommendations for updating and revising the Unified Development Ordinance.
