Information for Camden County Residents Running for Board
of Education
- This is a nonpartisan office in Camden County.
- There are five (5) members on the board of education,
all elected on an “at-large” basis
- How do individuals get on the ballot for the General
Election?
(§163-106, 107, 108)
- Candidates must file a notice of candidacy with the Camden
County Board of Elections and pay a filing fee of twelve
dollars ($12.00). Notice of candidacy forms may be obtained
at the Camden County Board of Elections prior to the date
on which candidates may commence filing.
- All candidates must, at the time of filing a Notice of
Candidacy, file a certificate signed by the chairman or
the director of the county board of elections where they
are registered to vote.
- A candidate may not file for more than one office.
- When is the filing period?

- Begins – 12:00 Noon – Monday, July 1, 2008
- Ends – 12:00 Noon – Thursday, July 31, 2008
- When are
the elections?
(Session Law 2001-24-House Bill 699, §163-1)
- There is no Primary Election for this office.
- General Election – Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
- What are the qualifications for Board
of Education in Camden County?
(Session Law 2001-24, House Bill 699)
- An individual must be at least 21 years of age and a qualified
Camden County registered voter.
- Term of office is four (4) years.
- What are
the Campaign Reporting filing requirements?
(§163-278.9)
The Campaign Reporting act requires financial disclosure
of all political activities. The following reports are
due to be filed at the Camden County Board of Elections
for 2008 Elections:
- The treasurer of each candidate shall file with the Camden
County Board of Elections under certification of the treasurer
as true and correct to the best knowledge of that officer
the following reports:
- Certification of Financial Account Information (CRO-3500)
- Statement of Organization – Candidate Committee
(CRO-2100)
- Certification of Treasurer (CRO-3100)
- Certification of Threshold, if intent is to receive
or expend less than $3,000 (CRO-3600)
- If the intent is to receive or expend $3,000 or more,
there are additional reports to complete.
- These forms are to be filed with the Camden County Board
of Elections and must be postmarked within 10 days following
the date of filing the Notice of Candidacy. If the candidate
receives or spends money prior to filing the Notice of
Candidacy, however, these forms must be postmarked within
10 days of the committee’s first expense, contribution,
or loan.
- The candidate may be the treasurer or may appoint another
person; however, the candidate’s spouse shall
not be appointed as treasurer. (§163-278.7)
- If the intent to stay within the threshold changes, or
if the $3,000 threshold is exceeded, the treasurer shall
immediately notify the Camden County Board of Elections
and shall be responsible for filing all reports required
in §163-278.9 and 163-278.40B, 163-278.40C, 163-278.40D,
and 163-278.40E; provided that any contribution, loan,
or expenditure which would have been required to be reported
on an earlier report but for this section shall be included
on the next report required after the intent changes or
the threshold is exceeded.
