Administration
The
Administration Department is responsible for the implementation of
polices established by the County Commissioners. In that role,
the County Manager coordinates and monitors the activities of the
various County departments, implements budgets, oversees County
finances, provides public information, interacts with other
governments and advocates County positions, prepares grant
applications, and makes policy recommendations to the
Commissioners.
Board of Elections
The Board of Elections conducts elections in Camden County. There
is a 3-member Board that meets once a month and a Director
that provides for the day-to-day administration of the office
and conducts elections.

Dismal
Swamp Canal Welcome Center
The Dismal
Swamp Canal Welcome Center serves as the Gateway to
Camden County and northeastern North Carolina. Approximately
500,000
travelers use the facility each year. Staff serves as Ambassadors
for
the region and state. This is the only such facility in the US
greeting visitors by both a major highway and historic waterway.
The
Dismal Swamp Canal is the oldest continually operating waterway
in the
country, serving as part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
Staff assists with travel planning, highway conditions, emergency
management, group tours, school groups, historical presentations,
information packets, etc.

Parks
and Recreation
Established in May 2006, the department is currently
developing and coordinating a wide variety of programs within
the county. It is the goal of the department to offer fun
and enjoyable activities for all ages. If you have any comments
or suggestions for new programs or would like to teach in
your spare time, please feel free to give the department
a call.
Personnel
The Personnel Department is responsible for recruitment,
position classification, maintaining employee files, benefits,
training, and safety. The Personnel Office is located in
the Administration Building.
Planning
and Code Enforcement
The
Code Enforcement and Planning Department conducts long-range
planning for the County and implements all zoning, subdivision,
building inspection, nuisance abatement and housing code enforcement
functions. In addition, department staff assists people
who want information about future development (personal, neighborhood,
or countywide) and those who are looking to open businesses in
Camden County. Department staff assist both the Planning
Board and the Board of Adjustment in their work.
Public Works
The Public Works Department serves
Camden County from Burnt Mills Tank to Camden Point and from
Currituck County to Elizabeth City. They are responsible for
operation and maintenance of the reverse osmosis water treatment
plant, distribution system, installation of new services, reading
meters, inspection of new connections, locating water mains,
service calls, etc.
Register of
Deeds
The Register of Deeds Office has the responsibility of protecting the integrity,
completeness, accuracy, and safekeeping of large numbers of public records. These
records may include, but are not limited to real property documents, power of
attorneys, leases, plats, certificates of birth, marriage, death, and military
discharges. This office issues marriages licenses and gives the oath of office
to notary publics.

Senior Center
The Camden Senior Center is a community Focal Point on Aging. It is
a place where senior citizens can meet, receive services and
participate in activities that will affirm their dignity and self
worth. In this warm and homey atmosphere the center staff creates
opportunities for senior citizens to apply their wisdom, insight and
exercise their skills.
The Camden Senior Center plays an integral role as a resource
for the entire community and assists other agencies in serving
senior
adults. Our Center programs consist of a variety of individual and
group services and activities. We are try to create an atmosphere that acknowledges
the value of human life and develop innovative approaches to aging
issues.
Social
Services
The Department of Social Services administers all federally mandated programs
such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Work First Family Assistance, Crisis and LIEAP.
Childcare, Adoptions and Foster Care services are also provided. They assess
child abuse and neglect, and offer help to support and preserve families. They
offer services such as Adult Protective Services, Adult Placement Services and
Guardianship Services.
