Permit Procedures
POLICY:
It is the policy of the Camden County
Sheriff's Office to process applications for weapons purchase
and carry concealed permits in a timely manner and fully
investigate the background of the applicant before issuance
of permit.
It is further the policy that all fees will be paid before
the applications is processed.
DEFINITIONS:
WEAPONS PURCHASE PERMIT: A permit used
to purchase a handgun, long fun, or crossbow. This permit is
valid for five (5) years.
CARRY CONCEALED WEAPON PERMIT: A
permit used to carry a concealed weapon. This permit is valid
for five (5) years.
PROCEDURES:
- Applications for weapons purchase permits shall be governed
by the North Carolina Statutes Chapter 14-404, Issuance
or refusal of permits; appeal from refusal; grounds for
refusal; sheriff's fee. Applications are valid for thirty
(30) days.
- Applications for carry concealed weapon permits shall be governed
by the North Carolina General Statutes Article 54B
- All fees are due upon presentation of application.
NOTE:
This policy is for internal use only, and does not enlarge a deputy's
civil or criminal liability in any way. It should not be
construed as the creation of a higher standard of safety
or care in an evidentiary sense, with respect to third party
claims. Violations of this directive, if proven, can only
form the basis of a complaint by this agency, and then only
in a non-judicial administrative setting.
This Application
For Weapon Purchase Permit and Supplementary
Questions For Applicants For A Permit To Purchase a Handgun has
to be turned in to the Camden County Sheriff's Office along
with the $5.00
per permit fee.
A valid Drivers License must be presented and the address
must be current and match the address
on the application.
