Arsonist
Burns Vehicles
The
Camden County Sheriff’s Office along with
the County Fire Marshal are investigating
five vehicle fires. The first occurred on Upton Road on Sunday
morning, September 5th, 2004 around 3 AM. A Hyundai
four door car was burned. On Thursday morning, September 9th,
2004 around 3 AM, a Chevy S10 Blazer was burned at Riverbridge
Apartments on US158. Later this same date before midnight, a
Chevrolet pickup was burned on NC343 north at Scotland Road.
On September 15, 2004, around 3 AM a camper was burned in the
yard on Lilly Road in South Mills that was for sale and an hour
later a Chevy Cavalier was burned at the Riverbridge Apartments.
It
was concluded that all vehicles were left unlocked or windows
left open and some accelerant was used to
ignite them. All vehicles were totally burned.
The
Camden County Sheriff’s Office is asking
that if anyone knows about these incidents or may have seen anything
suspicious pertaining to these fires to call the Sheriff’s Office
at 252-338-5046 or if you wish to remain anonymous, please call
the Crime Line at 252-335-5555. There is a reward of up to $6,500
if it leads to an arrest and conviction of the arsonists. Sheriff
Perry called Governor Mike Easley’s office this morning in request
of funds to up the reward. The Governor’s office seems positive
that they could assist in this matter.
