How do I apply for a Pistol Permit?

Individuals who have lived in Camden County for a minimum of 30 Days may apply for a pistol permit after coming to the Sheriff's Office and completing an application.  Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM. Applicants must have valid picture identification at the time of the application. Applicants must have reference from non-relatives. Applications approximately take seven working days to process.

How did I get selected for Jury Duty?

Though your Jury Duty notice is mailed by the Sheriff's Office, your name is selected randomly to us from the Clerk of Court's Office. Your name may have been selected from Division of Motor files, tax records or other documents.

How can I get excused from Jury Duty?

The Sheriff's Office cannot excuse anyone from Jury Duty. A judge is the only one who may excuse someone from Jury Duty. A person 65 years of age or older may automatically request to be excused from Jury Duty, if they wish.

How do I obtain an Ex Parte (restraining) order?

An ex parte order can be obtained in one of the following ways:

  • In emergency situations, an ex parte may be issued by a Magistrate

  • During regular business hours, an ex parte may be obtained through the Clerk of Court (Civil Division).

Once the ex parte order has been issued by the appropriate judicial official, the Sheriff's Office will make immediate service.

How do I obtain an Involuntary Commitment Order?

An involuntary commitment is not issued by the Sheriff's Office. Commitment orders are issued by a magistrate or other judicial official. Once the order has been received by the Sheriff's Office, service will be attempted within 24 hours. Once served, the individual is transported by the Sheriff's Office to the nearest medical/mental health facility for evaluation by qualified medical/mental health personnel. If medical/mental health personnel determine that the individual is to be committed, the Sheriff's Office will provide transportation to the designated mental health facility.

How do I notify the Sheriff's Office about Criminal Activity?

To notify the Camden County Sheriff's Office of any suspected criminal activity, you may dial 911 for an emergency situation. For suspected on-going criminal activity, you may contact the Sheriff's Office 252-331-7446. To provide information on illegal drug activity, you may dial 252-335-5555. The information received is confidential.

How do I become a Camden County Deputy?

To become a Deputy, you must:

  • Be a Camden County resident (or be willing to relocate to Camden County)

  • Be at least 21 years of age

  • Be of good moral character with positive credit history

  • Have a minimum of a high school education (college preferred)

  • Never been charged or convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor

  • Be physically fit, and

  • Possess or be able to obtain a North Carolina Law Enforcement Certification.
