BOARD OF ELECTIONS
ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN THE VOTING PROCESS
The HAVA, or Help America Vote
Act, legislation that was passed by Congress after the 2000
Presidential Election is aimed at improving the administration of
elections in the United States. Because of this new law, the
voting process will require more time for voters to cast their
ballots.
-
Each voter
must state his or her name, address, and party affiliation. They
will also be REQUIRED to sign the voter registration book before
being allowed to vote.
-
Voters who
registered by mail and have not provided identification to the
Election Board will be REQUIRED to show identification to the
precinct officials.
-
Voters who
cannot be found in the registration records will be REQUIRED to
complete all paperwork before being allowed to vote a
Provisional Ballot.
-
Absentee
ballot requests must be submitted in writing using the voter's
own handwriting or an approved form from the Elections office.
-
Each
precinct will have visually marked curb-side voting for those
who are unable to walk into the voting enclosure.
