Explain The Political Party
Affiliations.
When registering to vote, individuals will be asked to
declare their party affiliation with the Democratic, Republican,
other recognized political party, or an Unaffiliated status.
Should you declare yourself to be an Unaffiliated voter, you may
vote on referenda or bond issues during a partisan primary, unless
a political party has opened its primary to unaffiliated voters.
Both Democratic and Republican parties allow Unaffiliated voters
to vote in their primaries. Voters have to choose which party they
wish to vote for an they must tell the Chief Judge at the precinct
when they go vote.
In a partisan primary, voters may vote only for candidates of
their party and on referenda or bond issues. In a non-partisan
primary, all voters may vote for all candidates.
